Therapy Timeline & What to Expect

Understanding your progress through the PelviCenter therapy series

Standard Therapy Schedule

A typical therapy series consists of 10 sessions over 4 weeks:

  • First 2 weeks: 3 sessions per week
  • Following weeks: 2 sessions per week
Special Protocols: For postpartum pelvic floor stimulation and pelvic pain syndrome, the schedule may be daily (5× per week) for 10-12 sessions. Your therapist will advise if this applies to you.

What to Expect During Your Therapy Series

Sessions 1-5: Adaptation Phase

What to expect: Your body is adapting to the muscular load. You may not notice any noticeable improvement yet - this is completely normal.

Therapist focus: Increasing intensity, optimizing position, setting realistic expectations.

Sessions 5-6: First Noticeable Results

What to expect: Most patients begin to experience the first noticeable improvement in their symptoms.

Therapist focus: Maintaining intensity at level 5-6.

Sessions 7-10: Progressive Improvement

What to expect: Continuing improvement in symptoms and pelvic floor strength.

Therapist focus: Completing the therapy series, assessing progress.

Session 11+: Long-term Results

What to expect: Long-term sustainability depends on the number of sessions completed (10 vs 15-20) and your physical activity level after therapy.

Therapist focus: Discussing maintenance training and home exercises.

Intensity Progression

Session Range Target Intensity Level Notes
Session 1 Level 1 Start low, explain intensity will increase with adaptation
Session 1-2 Level 2+ Reach tolerable intensity within ~5 minutes
Session 4-5 Level 5-6 Target therapeutic intensity, maintain through series
Session 6-10 Level 5-6 Maintain optimal intensity
Intensity Guidelines: Level 3 is the minimum intensity for effective therapy - below this, no therapeutic success can be expected. Level 6 corresponds to 100% intensity and should only be used with good adaptation.

Importance of Consistency

Session adherence is crucial, especially during the first 5-10 sessions when your body is adapting to the treatment. Missing sessions during this critical period can significantly impact results.

Setting Expectations: The most common reason for therapy discontinuation is the expectation of early results. Understanding that noticeable improvement typically begins around session 5-6 helps patients stay committed to the full series.

After Your Therapy Series

Maintenance Training

After completing your initial therapy series, your therapist will discuss:

  • Home exercise routines to maintain progress
  • Lifestyle modifications to support continued improvement
  • Whether additional therapy sessions are recommended
  • Follow-up schedules to monitor long-term results

Long-term Success Factors

The sustainability of your results depends on:

  • Session count: Completing the full recommended series (10-20 sessions)
  • Physical activity: Regular exercise and pelvic floor maintenance
  • Lifestyle factors: Weight management, proper hydration, avoiding bladder irritants
  • Follow-up care: Adhering to recommended maintenance schedules
