Therapy Session Best Practices

How to prepare for and get the most from your PelviCenter therapy sessions

Before Your Session

Preparation

  • Empty your bladder before arriving at your appointment
  • Remove outer layers (jackets, coats) to prevent heat buildup in the back area
  • Empty pockets - remove wallet, phone, keys as magnetic stripe cards will be erased
  • Remove hearing aids before the session begins
  • Check incontinence pads and change if necessary before the session
First Session Only: You will need to complete a contraindications questionnaire and sign a consent form. This is a one-time requirement for your first session.

During Your Session

Positioning

  • Sit fully back - ensure your buttocks and back are completely against the seat and backrest
  • Maintain upright posture - sit straight with the backrest in the basic position
  • Center yourself - your therapist will check that you're centered on the seat
  • Foot support - the footrest will be raised until your heels or shoe soles are resting on it

What to Expect

  • Duration: 15-20 minutes per session (20 minutes recommended)
  • Sensation: You may feel muscle contractions - this is normal and not painful
  • Activity: Sit quietly and relax - no exercises are performed during the session
  • Intensity: Will be gradually increased over sessions as you become accustomed to the treatment
One-sided sensation: If you feel stimulation more on one side, this is usually due to seating position or muscle imbalance. It often resolves as intensity increases.

After Your Session

Immediate Post-Session Care

  • Remain seated until the footrest has fully lowered automatically
  • Hydration: Drink 150-200ml of water (or isotonic drink) after the session
  • Documentation: Your therapist will record intensity level, position, and any observations
  • Schedule next session: Book your next appointment before leaving
Key Success Factor: Consistency in attending sessions is crucial, especially during the first 5-10 sessions when your body is adapting to the treatment.

What to Bring

  • Comfortable, loose-fitting clothing
  • Any medical documentation requested by your therapist
  • List of questions for your therapist
  • For first session: completed contraindications form if provided in advance

Safety Considerations

Absolute Contraindications: Therapy cannot be performed if you have:
  • Pregnancy
  • Pacemaker, defibrillator, bladder pacemaker, or insulin pump
  • Metal implants between knee and lower back
  • Decompensated heart failure
  • Surgery within the last 4 weeks

If in doubt, no therapy should be performed - consult with the clinical leadership.
